Sub-agents
Parallel workers for complex tasks, each with full tool access on the same machine.
What they are
The main agent can call delegate_task to hand a self-contained piece of work to a sub-agent — a fresh agent context that runs on its own, uses the same tools, works in the same workspace, and reports a result back. Several can run at once, so a large task fans out instead of running serially.
- Background execution — sub-agents run in the background; the parent continues and collects results as they finish.
- Full tool access — files, terminal, browser, web, subject to the same approval policy.
- Isolation — each sub-agent starts cold with just the task description, keeping the parent's context clean.
Configuration
Admins configure sub-agent behavior and the model they use in Admin → Subagents.
When to use them
Good for: sweeping many files for a pattern, running independent checks in parallel, or any task with parts that don't depend on each other. Not needed for straightforward single-threaded work — the parent agent handles that inline.
