Installing AI Coding Agents (Hrida)

Run these in the AI Labs terminal

Run every command on this page in AI Labs' built-in terminal, not on your own laptop. That way AI Coding Agents (Hrida) is installed on the machine AI Labs runs on, where AI Labs can find and use it.

AI Coding Agents (Hrida) is published to the GitHub Packages npm registry as the hrida-agent-sdk package under the @hrida-ai scope. Point npm at that registry, authenticate with a GitHub token, then install it globally.

Prerequisites

  • Node.js and npm installed on the machine.
  • A GitHub personal access token with the read:packages scope. Create one at GitHub → Settings → Developer settings → Personal access tokens, or ask your administrator for one.
Keep your token private

Never commit your token, paste it into chats or docs, or share your ~/.npmrc. If a token is exposed, revoke it on GitHub and create a new one.

1. Add the registry line

echo '@hrida-ai:registry=https://npm.pkg.github.com' >> ~/.npmrc

2. Add the auth token line

Run this as its own command, after step 1 finishes. Replace <YOUR_GITHUB_TOKEN> with your token:

echo '//npm.pkg.github.com/:_authToken=<YOUR_GITHUB_TOKEN>' >> ~/.npmrc

3. Verify the file

cat ~/.npmrc

You should see exactly these two lines (with your real token in the second):

@hrida-ai:registry=https://npm.pkg.github.com
//npm.pkg.github.com/:_authToken=<YOUR_GITHUB_TOKEN>

4. Clean up a broken file (if needed)

If step 3 shows anything else, such as duplicate or garbled lines from an earlier attempt, delete the file and repeat steps 1 and 2:

rm -f ~/.npmrc
note

This removes your whole ~/.npmrc. If it holds settings for other registries, edit the file by hand instead and remove only the broken lines.

5. Install

npm install -g @hrida-ai/hrida-agent-sdk

6. Run

hrida-agent-sdk

Once installed, AI Labs detects it and you can pick hrida-agent-sdk as an agent in the model selector. See Coding agents.

7. Configure a provider

After installation, run /provider inside hrida-agent-sdk and set up a provider before you start using it. Follow Provider configuration for the full steps.

8. Select it in a chat

Open a new chat in AI Labs and pick hrida-agent-sdk from the model selector under the message box. It appears in this format:

agent:hrida-agent-sdk/<model>

For example, with the Hrida.ai provider it shows as agent:hrida-agent-sdk/HridaAI. The model part matches the model you chose in /provider.

Admins can also see it under Settings → Models.

Installation troubleshooting

  • 401 Unauthorized / 403 Forbidden — the token is missing, expired, or lacks read:packages. Re-check step 2 and step 3.
  • 404 Not Found for @hrida-ai/hrida-agent-sdk — the registry line from step 1 is missing, so npm is looking on the public registry.
  • hrida-agent-sdk: command not found — npm's global bin directory isn't on your PATH. Run npm prefix -g and add its bin folder to PATH.

Install skills

Skills are distributed as plugins from a marketplace, a GitHub repository that lists them. The Hrida office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PDF, and web app testing) live in the private Hrida-AI/office-skills repository, so you need a GitHub token that can read it (the repo scope, or a fine-grained token with Contents: Read on that repository).

Skills must be hrida-agent-sdk compatible

hrida-agent-sdk only installs marketplaces built for it. The repository needs a .hrida-plugin/marketplace.json file at its root, and any plugin manifests (plugin.json) must also be in a .hrida-plugin/ folder. Older repositories may use .hrida-agent-sdk-plugin/ instead, which also works.

Marketplaces made for other tools, such as Claude Code's .claude-plugin/ folder, are not compatible and fail with Marketplace file not found. The Hrida repositories (office-skills, knowledge-work-skills) are already compatible.

1. Add the marketplace

Paste your token straight after https:// and before @github.com, with no spaces:

hrida-agent-sdk plugin marketplace add https://<YOUR_GITHUB_TOKEN>@github.com/Hrida-AI/office-skills.git
No spaces in the URL

A space on either side of the token splits the URL into separate arguments, and the command fails with Invalid URL.

2. Install the skills

hrida-agent-sdk plugin install document-skills@hridaai-agent-skills
hrida-agent-sdk plugin install webapp-testing@hridaai-agent-skills
PluginSkills
document-skillsxlsx, docx, pptx, pdf
webapp-testingwebapp-testing

Manage marketplaces

hrida-agent-sdk plugin marketplace list # show added marketplaces
hrida-agent-sdk plugin marketplace update # pull the latest skills
hrida-agent-sdk plugin marketplace remove hridaai-agent-skills

Troubleshooting

  • Failed to add marketplace ... Invalid URL — there's a space inside the marketplace URL. Remove the spaces around the token.
  • Marketplace file not found — the repository isn't hrida-agent-sdk compatible: it has no .hrida-plugin/marketplace.json. This also happens if you run the command in Claude Code instead of hrida-agent-sdk.
  • Marketplace add fails with Authentication failed or Repository not found — the token can't read Hrida-AI/office-skills. Check its scope, or create a new token.
