Installation

pip

pip install cptr
cptr run

Opens in your browser at http://localhost:8000.

  • MCP tool servers require the optional MCP dependencies: pip install 'cptr[mcp]'.
  • To install every optional feature group at once: pip install 'cptr[all]' (the Docker image includes all of them already).

uv

uvx cptr@latest run

The cptr run command

FlagDefaultPurpose
--host127.0.0.1Interface to bind. Use 0.0.0.0 to allow access from other devices.
--port8000Port to bind.
--reloadoffAuto-reload on code changes (development).
--headlessoffDon't open a browser window on start.

On start, cptr prints a URL containing a one-time startup token (http://localhost:8000/?token=…) and opens it in your browser. Use that link to complete first-time setup — it creates the first admin account.

Windows

If opening a terminal reports a missing VCRUNTIME140.dll or Universal CRT DLL, install Microsoft's Visual C++ Redistributable and restart cptr.

Where data lives

AI Labs stores its database, config, and user data in ~/.cptr by default (app.db, config.toml, logs/, memory/, uploaded files). Override the location with CPTR_DATA_DIR. See Configuration.

Access from your phone

Same Wi-Fi — bind to all interfaces and open http://<your-computer-ip>:8000 on your phone:

cptr run --host 0.0.0.0

Not on the same network — reach it remotely with a tunnel:

  • Tailscale — a private mesh network between your devices. Recommended.
  • Cloudflare Tunnel — a permanent URL through Cloudflare's edge.
  • ngrok — a public URL in one command.

Most tunnels forward to localhost, so the default cptr run works as-is. If your tunnel binds a specific interface, match it with --host. Or skip networking entirely and connect a messaging bot instead.

Exposing AI Labs

Once authenticated, a user has full access to the host filesystem and shell. Read the Security model before putting AI Labs on the public internet or behind a shared tunnel.

Install as an app (PWA)

AI Labs ships full Progressive Web App support — install it to your home screen or dock from the browser's install prompt and it runs in its own window with an app icon and touch icon. A PWA tab in Settings covers install state and options.
